Job Shadowing

Interested in Job Shadowing?

Job shadowing gives Salem High School students the chance to explore careers by spending time with a professional in the workplace. This is a valuable way to learn more about different career paths, build workplace skills, and make connections for the future.

How It Works

  • Who Can Participate: All SHS students in grades 9–12 are eligible. To ensure a positive experience, students must maintain good attendance in order to take part in job shadowing.

  • How Many Times:

    • Freshmen – up to 1 job shadow

    • Sophomores – up to 2 job shadows

    • Juniors & Seniors – up to 4 job shadows

  • When: Job shadows must be scheduled between November 10 – March 15.

  • Transportation: Students and families are responsible for transportation to and from the job site.

  • Attendance: Absences for job shadowing are excused if procedures are followed. Students must make up any missed classwork and should plan around major assignments.

  • Requirements: Most employers require students to be at least 16 years old. Opportunities depend on employer availability and are not guaranteed. Please allow about 2 weeks after meeting with Mrs. Fobare for placement.
